In the rhythm of the machines

Duration: 1.5 hours
Participants: maximum 25
Cost: 45 Euro plus admission per person
Location: Weaving mill

Steam whistles, time clocks and the running of the machines determined the rhythm of work in textile factories 100 years ago. Women and men had to arrive at work on time and start production when the heavy transmission wheels began to turn. This applied equally to everyone, whether they were machinists, spinners, weavers or weavers. Of course, the stoker had to be the first to start in the morning. But the other jobs in a weaving mill, right up to the factory owner in the office, are also presented. Participants can find out how textile workers' families lived, where they ate and rested, in the original workers' house in front of the factory gate.

The creators and the spinning mill

Duration: 1.5 hours
Participants: maximum 25
Cost: 45 Euro plus admission per person
Location: Spinning mill

How did the cotton industry develop in the Münsterland region, and which individuals were and still are responsible for its high productivity through their decisions? The magnificent production rooms of the historic cotton mill, built in 1907, provide the perfect setting to learn about the business practices, internal operations and private lives of the manufacturing families from the perspective of textile entrepreneurs. A 23-metre-long fashion display case sets the scene for the historical development of fashion and home textiles. The tour then leads to the entrepreneurs and the spinning machines on display in the same room. Aspects of the history of the spinning mill building and the view from the roof of the spinning mill over the surrounding industrial areas conclude the tour.

Light art workshop

Light Painting

Duration: 2 hours
Participants: maximum 15
Cost: 65 Euro plus admission per person

The workshop invites those who enjoy experimenting and are interested in photography to explore the Industrial Museum and try their hand at light painting. Participants can construct their own lighting tools and try out different effects. In the museum itself or in the studio, they can then experiment with different light sources and exposure times to try out motifs and effects until the finished light painting is complete.

Behind Beauty

Behind the scenes of the beauty industry

Duration: 1 hour
Participants: maximum 25
Cost: 45 Euro plus admission per person
Location: spinning mill

Investments in one's own appearance and the pursuit of a certain ideal have turned the beauty industry into a billion-dollar business – with annual sales of around 500 billion US dollars and rising. But who decides what is considered beautiful? And how does the industry influence our perceptions and desires?

The exhibition ‘Behind Beauty’ focuses on the multifaceted topic of the beauty industry as an interface between production, technical innovation, consumption, medicine, economics and advertising. The LWL Museum Textilwerk invites you to immerse yourself in the world of model Claudia Schiffer and bodybuilder Arnold Schwarzenegger. Question everyday rituals such as shaving or wearing restrictive underwear and discover the success stories of entrepreneur Estée Lauder and fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent. From 1900 to the present day, the exhibition illustrates different ideals and practices of beauty with more than 300 exhibits from the fields of fashion, cosmetics, medicine and more.

We offer this tour in German, English and Dutch.
